Insignia College is offering a series of free sessions over the next few months to empower individuals interested in using the practice of meditation to be more mindful in their daily lives, leading to less stress, more contentment and a more enriching life. The sessions are presented in manner such that it applies to all religions, faiths and scientific beliefs, allowing you to benefit without having to change your belief structure or feel alienated from your beliefs and your religion. Where possible, references and examples are cited from the major religions of the world, however, since meditation and mindfulness was first documented in detail in Buddhist philosophies, Buddhist teachings will be used as the basis for explaining the fundamental principles. Many courses and lessons are offered to assist people in learning the practices of meditation and mindfulness, however, most do not approach it from a point of view which enables people to practice it the real world. In most cases, the focus is on the theory, history and different methods, with little focus on the desired goal. These sessions are intended as a community service by Insignia College if you are interested in spending a bit of time exercising your mind to enrich your life.

How to be Mindful When Buying a Computer

First session: Thursday, April 21, 2016
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

As part of its community service sessions, Insignia College is giving a seminar on the various points to consider when buying a new computer.

Do you understand all the computer jargon sales people use (GHz, GB, MB, Mbps, DRAM, VRAM, SSD, HD, SD, USB, uSD, etc.)?  Do you wonder why some computers cost a few hundred dollars and some a few thousand?  Do you know what’s inside a computer and what use it is?  Do you know what you need to do the things you want to do so you don’t pay a lot for things you don’t need?

Well, if you answered “No” to any of the above questions, attend the seminar and get your questions answered by an expert.  The seminar will be conducted by Dr. Chris Sellathamby, who has been appropriately given the title of “Computer Whisperer” by our students.  Dr. Sellathamby will give a brief overview of computer hardware and software, and provide recommendations on how to purchase a computer and get the most for your money.  Feel free to stay after the seminar and ask Dr. Sellathamby any specific questions.

The seminar cost is $10 per person payable in cash at the door.  Free for present and former students and staff of Insignia College.
